Eduardo Escalante nació en Antofagasta, Chile en 1942. Entre su brillante currículo podemos destacar su formación inicial como Profesor de Español en el Instituto Pedagógico de la Universidad de Chile, sede Valparaíso donde obtuvo la Licenciatura en Lingüística Literatura y la Maestría en Ciencias Sociales. Estudió Ciencias en la Universidad de Gales, Gran Bretaña. Eduardo Escalante fue profesor de la Universidad de Chile y docente de posgrado en la Universidad Arturo Prat y Católica del Maule (Chile).
A nivel internacional, participó en diferentes programas académicos en la Universidad Tecnológica Nacional (Argentina), la Universidad Nacional de Cuyo (Argentina) y la Universidad Aconcagua (Argentina), entre otras. Eduardo siempre se destacó por su dinamismo, inteligencia, creatividad y cercanía con las personas, sin importar su condición social, intelectual o cultural. Inquieto, veraz y proactivo por naturaleza y vocación, se desempeñó como docente y planificador de currículos en la Sede Central durante los tiempos de la Reforma Universitaria, fructífera tarea que tuvo que abandonar debido a su encarcelamiento y posterior exilio, donde residió en Gales.
Docente de varias generaciones de estudiantes de pregrado y posgrado, Eduardo se destacó personalmente por su espíritu creativo y dinámico, de trato directo y cercano, lo que lo llevó también a explorar campos relacionados con las matemáticas, la informática y la poesía. Como muchos, tuvo que vivir el dolor del exilio con su esposa Nancy y sus dos hijos. Regresó a su “alma mater” en la década de los noventa donde, además de la docencia, ocupó cargos de alta dirección hasta llegar a ser Rector de la UPLA. Fue consultor del BID y director de Investigación de la Facultad de Psicología de la Universidad Aconcagua (Argentina) e investigador de la Universidad Juan Agustín Maza (Argentina).
Eduardo fue investigador y escritor. Durante su vida, publicó trabajos en múltiples artículos científicos y revistas en Chile, Argentina, Perú, Colombia, México, Nicaragua y España. Además de estos artículos ha escrito múltiples libros sobre estadística e investigación en Chile y Argentina.
Sus obras han sido incorporadas a los sitios Arte Poética, Proyecto Patrimonio Cultural, Escritores y Poetas en Español, Letras de Chile en los que se han publicado varios de sus poemas.
Eduardo Escalante was born in Antofagasta, Chile in 1942. Among his brilliant curriculum we can highlight his initial training as a Spanish teacher at the Pedagogical Institute of the University of Chile, Vasparaiso headquarters where he earned a degree in Linguistics Literature & a Master’s in Social Sciences at the University of Wales, Great Britain. Eduardo Escalante was a professor at the University of Chile and a post graduate teacher at the Arturo Prat and Catolica del Maule University (Chile). At the international level, he participated in different academic programs at teh National Technological University (Argentina), the National University of Cuyo (Argentina) and the Aconcagua University (Argentina), among others. Eduardo always stood out for his dynanmism, intelligence, creativity and closeness to people, regardless of their social, intellectual, or cultural condition. Restless, truthful, and proactive by nature and vocation, he served as a curriculum teacher and planner at Headquarters during the times of the University Reform, fruitful taska that he had to leave due to his imprisonment and subsequent exile, where he lived in Wales.
Teacher of several generations of undergraduate and graduate students, Eduardo stood out personally for his creative and dynamic spirit, of direct and close treatment, which also led him to explore fields related to mathematics,computer science, and poetry. Like many, he had to live the pain of exile with his wife Nancy and their two children. He returned to his “alma mater” in the nineties where, in addition to teaching, he held senior management positions until he became Provost of the UPLA. He was an IDB consultant and director of the Research of the Facultry of Psychology of the Aconcagua University (Argentina) and a researcher at the Juan Agustin Maza University (Argentina).
Eduardo was a researcher and writer. During his life, he published works in multiple scientific articles and magazines in Chile, Argentina, Peru, Columbia,, Mexico, Nicaragua, and Spain. In addition to these articles he has written multiple books about statistics and research in Chile and Argentina.
His works have been incorporated into the sites Arte Poetica, Cultural Heritage Project, Writers and Poets in Spanish, Letras de Chile in which several of his poems have been published.

Amaya Iford is a 17 year old senior from Opelousas High School. She is the Vice president of the OHS Spanish Club and the Opelousas High School, FFA Vice President. She is also a member of Beta and National Honor Society.
Kamaal Muhammad is 17 years old, and he is a Graduating Senior at Opelousas High School. He is currently the Secretary of the Spanish National Honor Society. Kamaal played soccer for OHS for 3 years and was the captain of the soccer team his senior year. He maintains an average 3.5 GPA, and he will never give up.
Lakayla Cleveland is 18 years old and a Graduating Senior of OHS. She currently has a 3.8 GPA and is the current Vice President of SHH. She is also a member of BETA, National Honor Society, Interact Club, and Science Olympiad. Additionally, she is a dual enrollment student at LSUE and is going to LSU to major in Criminology.
Jake Domingue is the elective president starting on December 15, 2021. His role is to delegate and organize the annual induction ceremony, preside at meetings consistently, serve as the SHH student spokesperson, prospective candidates for 2022-2023. Jake Domingue is 17 years old, in addition to SHH President he is also the President of Spanish Club. He is a member of Beta Club, National Honor Society and Science Olympiad. He has a cumulative GPA of 4.0+ and is a graduating senior. He will be attending the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in the Fall majoring in Kinesiology with an emphasis on Pre-Athletic Training.
Miguel Hernandez is 18 years old and a Graduating Senior of OHS. He is the current president of both Spanish Club and Spanish National Honor Society. His leadership can also be found on the soccer field, where he is the team captain. Through his years in high school he has enriched himself through his membership in BETA club, National Honor Society, HOSA, and Science Olympiad.
Avery Artigue is 18 years old and a Graduating Senior of OHS. She is the current Vice President of Spanish Club and Spanish National Honor Society as well as the BETA Club President. She is also a member of National Honor Society. She was named “LSUE DE Student of the Year,” and “Opelousas High School Student of the Year.” Additionally, she is finishing high school with an Associates Degree from LSUE.
Nadia Tucker is 18 years old and a Graduating Senior of OHS. She is currently serving as the Treasurer of Spanish National Honor Society and Spanish Club. Along with Spanish Club and Spanish National Honor Society, she is a member of BETA and NHS. She was ranked in the Top 3 of her graduating class (Salutatorian). She has also placed in the Science Fair and has 32 DE Class Credits.
